Today is Day 1 of the main part of the Texas Book Festival. Events take place in and around the capitol.
Yes, some events are actually in the Senate and House chambers. It’s worth getting to those way early so you can sit in one of the floor chairs, just like the legislators do. ‘Course, it may be just me who thinks that’s a fun experience.
Lots and lots of events going on. So check the schedule ahead of time, plan your activities and chart a walking map.
Make sure you include events at the Austin Museum of Art (AMOA). That’s where I’ll be both days. Come sit in on speakers and panels and/or stop by and wave a “howdy” at me. I’ll be the tall woman in the back of the room silently wishing she could take off her shoes – or if you come late in the day, that wishing may not be so silent.
Here’s today’s lineup at AMOA:
11 – 12: Keith Carter, introduced by Dana Friis-Hansen
12:30 – 1:30: Peter Brown, introduced by Stephen Clark
2 – 3: Mr. Fooster Traveling on Whim, Tim Corwin, introduced by Peggy Hubble
3:30 – 4:30: Great Houses of Texas, Lisa Germany, introduced by Helen Thompson

I wear gym shoes most of the time or flats so I don't have to worry about taking off my shoes. Once in a while I get a dud and my feet hurt.

What a wonderful experience, Helen. Are you going to be writing about the sessions?

keep me posted girlfriend - I get great vicarious experience and info from your posts during & after these events. Hoping I can meet you at one next year.
ReplyDeleteTook my sandals off the minute I got in the car. Tomorrow I ditch the skirt and jacket. I'm going blue jeans and tennis shoes. I'll take my Chair tag off and no one will know me.
ReplyDeleteI'm home! But tomorrow's another day.
