2013
Well, this is it -- 2012 is almost over.
What plans do you have for the new year? Have you set your goals? I hope at least one of them involves writing or publishing (and maybe both). But don't focus your goals on just writing, publishing and promotion. Those things are important, of course, but set another goal or two.
I'm still working on my list of 2013 goals, but here are a few on my list:
1. Continue to walk. Lengthen walk from 4 miles to 5, possibly 6, each day.
2. Publish Dismembering the Past.
3. Finish second book in the Hallie McAllister PI series.
4. Remember to wear my new FitBit One that my daughter gave me. It tracks steps, distance, stairs, and calories burned. It can even wake me silently. And it wirelessly uploads to my PC. Woot-woot! More plotting while I walk the park.
5. Post on this blog more often. Now that I have an Author Facebook page, I've slacked off on blogging. (So much that an author friend emailed to ask if I was okay.)
6. Somehow fit into a book the plot point of wind blowing so hard that it blows off the roof of a house. (We're near that after two days of wind. We've got shingles all over the ground.)
So, what are your goals? Have you starting thinking about the upcoming year?

The FitBit sounds cool.
ReplyDeleteMy goals are to get through the launch of my third book, and decide if I will continue writing or focus more on my guitar playing.
Alex, I'd like to hear more about your guitar playing!
DeleteMy goal is to submit my manuscript before April. The other is to contact the folks I need to interview to get the information I need to continue on my newest project, so I can finish it in 2013. Happy New Year Helen! You have reminded me I need to put my pedometer on, since one more goal is to walk more.
ReplyDeleteLiza, I want to hear about your submission. Let us know how it goes!
DeleteGreat goals. I intend to walk more this year too. I have two novels to finish up and get published and I intend to get out more, I've joined a book club and gardening club so should be a fun year.
ReplyDeleteHope yours is wonderful.
Ann
Ann, what's the book club like? Do y'all read then discuss books?
DeleteI have one goal so far..... Goal: To write goals for 2013....
ReplyDeletemore to come.
Happy New Year... Lou
Lou, you made me laugh. I'll be waiting for the "more to come."
DeleteYay, Karen. I'm looking forward to reading it, for sure.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you Helen. I need to finish my second humorous memoir. I also plan to publish a collection of flash fiction. Walk, talk, and laugh - not necessarily all at the same time - fit into the picture. All the best
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a humorous memoir! Doesn't seem to be a lot of those.
DeleteHey, I can do walk, talk and laugh, only it's more like walk, talk, laugh and trip.
Goals...uh...yes, I have goals. I wrote them on a scrap of paper and put it somewhere...or maybe that was the grocery list...
ReplyDeleteYou are loved and missed, Helen! Sorry to hear about the roof, though.
Totally understand, Laura. The thing I seem to write most is the grocery list.
DeleteI'm also working on my goals for this year. One is to finally get an agent. I want an agent for this new book. I'm also joining our local library club, hoping to set up reading for kids on Saturdays as well as a writing club. I want to attend one residency and at least one writing workshops (for me to learn not run) this year. And I must make a goal about money. Getting royalties once a year is tough, and that you never know what you're going to get. I get a pile of money and get all excited, then by the end of the year I'm in a big money panic. Not in 2013. Going to get that sorted.

DeleteLauri, I'm looking forward to your new book. Don't even know what it's about, but know I will like it. Do you have a plan for finding an agent?
DeleteHi Helen - well it looks as though your slate is ordered ... good luck for all things going in 2013 ... Happy Days - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHopefully, it's not set in stone since I tend to adapt to what happens. But I definitely am looking forward to the next book.
