Right now, you can get free ebooks of all their standardized test prep until August 30th.
To get a copy, you have to go to Kaplan’s iBookstore on your Apple iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch. You’ll find more than just medical prep books there, too.
Titles include Law School Labyrinth, Med School RX, MBA Fundamental Accounting and Finance, Portable GMAT, NCLEX-RN, the PMBR Finals series, Kaplan’s MCAT subject review series, and Kaplan AP guides.I’m not sure if you have to have some kind of ID that shows you’re a student. If not, some of these might be good resource books for writers.
Any med students out there?
"They" say that eText Books are the wave of the future and this might be some indication that traditional textbook publishers are trying to push students in that direction. Being out of school for some time, and never highlighting my textbook anyway, I might be persuaded to go this route if I was a traditional student.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Wow...textbooks are so expensive that this is a great deal!
ReplyDeleteLaura, these seem to be just the prep books to take exams to get into schools, but those can be costly too.
ReplyDeleteSuzanne, you can highlight in ebooks now, I believe.
I have a Sony Reader and I can highlight and take notes in the margins, among other things. (All things I would never do to a print book!)
ReplyDeleteKaplan's ebooks are free for anyone to download but, I believe, are only available through iTunes. If you're not familiar with it, iTunes store has a category called iTunes U (University), which has wide variety of reference-type books. They're great for both those in college and for those of us who write.
I'm many years out of college now!
ReplyDeleteTop site, I hadn't come across straightfromhel.blogspot.com before in my searches!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the wonderful work!
This is interesting, good to know.
ReplyDeleteThank you
Interesting idea, Helen--and I'm thinking the books might be a free source of great plot ideas for me, a mystery writer. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI've got more than enough education, so will definitely not go to medical school. No more exams >:)
ReplyDeleteCold As Heaven
You shouldn't need to prove you ARE a student, as almost all of these are tests to BECOME a student. They also have courses for the GRE (a more generalized grad school exam) and I THINK SAT and ACT--very cool this is all available for free, though too bad only in the one format.
ReplyDeleteThanks Darcia.
ReplyDeleteMe, too, Alex. Yay!
Hi there, Helen. Not a lot of us around anymore.
Good idea, Conda.
No medical school for me either, Cold. As a young, clueless girl, I considered law school, though.
That's true, Hart. Maybe if you can download with an app on some other device, it would work?
Good news for folks who need these books. I Tweeted your blog, which is something I do most of the time as you have such helpful information here.
ReplyDeleteThank you Maryann! What would we do without friends? I hope I never have to find out.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been a student for a long time now, but it's a great opportunity for those who need these books.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a winner. I am sure someone is jumping up and down now about this offer.
ReplyDeleteThere's books for writers too? Cool. Will check it out.
ReplyDeleteMy Darcy Mutates…
Oh, I only have Blackberry...
ReplyDeleteMy med student graduated this year, but great information.
ReplyDeleteSheila, you'll have a doctor in the family soon? Very handy.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a great opportunity for students who need the books, you're right!
