Abe Lincoln? Seriously?

I have not been hiding in a closet. No, really, I haven’t. And yet…I had not heard that a book called “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” had been published. Honest Abe slashing and killed vampires? Seriously?

Let’s not stop there, though. It’s now in line to be a movie.
Grahame-Smith, who combined zombies and Jane Austen in the best-selling novel "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies," will write the screenplay.
Wondering how Hollywood heard about the new book? According to Reuters,
One of the factors that cemented the filmmakers' interest was a peek at an in-house trailer for the book.
Who are these filmmakers? Tim Burton (as in “Alice in Wonderland”) and director Timur Bekmambetov.

Here’s a synopsis of the movie:
"Lincoln" reimagines one of the great U.S. presidents as an axe-throwing, highly trained vampire assassin, promising to give new context to real historical events such as the Civil War and Lincoln's ascension to the White House. It begins with his mother's murder when he was still a young boy and his vow of revenge.
How about you? Sound like your kind of movie? Sound like a book you’ll want to read? Whether you’re interested or not, did you ping on that one quote that said the filmmakers’ interests were peeked by the book trailer?

  1. Sounds interesting. I'd like to see how they blend the history with this idea.

Still, I have to chuckle at the idea of Lincoln in that role. Makes you wonder if they'll get around to some of the other assassinated presidents...

  2. Probably not for me. I don't watch horror at all!

  3. Out of curosity, I read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. About 85% of the writing was Austen's original work with a few zombie and fighting scenes thrown in here and there. This sounds like the original Buffy with a name change to Lincoln.

  4. I think it JUST came out this week, which is why you might have just heard about it. But it's getting a LOT of buzz (sighs Elizabeth!) :)

  5. I've actually seen a couple of good reviews for the book, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

  7. Not my cup of tea I am afraid. I am sure to see the movie, as it is the sort of thing DH enjoys.

  8. Interesting that this is the second post I've read in less than 24 hours pertaining to a book focusing on Lincoln. The one I read about yesterday is called My Life with the Lincolns by Gayle Brandeis, and the main character apparently believes her family is the Lincoln family reincarnated. You can read more about it here if you are interested: http://triciajobrien.blogspot.com/2010/03/coming-soon-gayle-brandeis.html

  9. I would so not be interested in the book or movie, and seriously wonder what the audience demographics would be for this. Just seems like another Hollywood gimmick, rather than a real, quality story.

  10. I think George Washington with his alleged axe that chopped down the cherry tree would have made a better vampire slayer than Abe Lincoln. :)

  11. I really think the vampire thing is being way overdone so it doesn’t sound like my type of book or movie, but discovery through the book trailer did catch my attention.

  12. Heard about this earlier. Funny, the book isn't getting stellar reviews, either. Guess that's never stopped anyone from making a movie though, huh?

  13. NO and NO. Sorry this kind of makes me feel sick- hate to be a buzz-kill.

  14. I'm tired of vampires. Put a stake through the genre and bury it for a century or two.

  15. I'm not a part of the vampire craze. Just not my cup of tea.

  16. Sounds interesting. I love the idea of marrying historical fiction with a horror theme. I'd definitely give it a shot.

  17. I've read Lincoln on Leadership, but not Lincoln on Vampires! Not too sure about this one.

  18. Not sure that this is something that I would go see. I'm not a great fan of horror to begin with, and the current craze of vampires and zombies is passing me by. Plus, I really don't like messing with historical characters in a way that might diminish their true impact. Will future generations key on Lincoln the vampire killer instead of Lincoln the great president and statesman?

  19. Guess that explains why in a lot of photos of Abe he has an axe in his hand. Probably just finished sharpening stakes to kill the vampires with. :) What will they come up with next?

  20. It is interesting that there are a couple of Lincoln knock-offs just coming out. Sometimes there's eithere a convergence of ideas or word gets out on one book and someone writes another to jump on the wagon.
