If you like to read, but the holidays broke your book bank account, but you’re not a professional book reviewer and don’t get galleys sent to you, but, dangit, you’d like a free book….
The Crown Publishing Group is giving out free galleys of some of their books. Currently, they’re giving away:
Breaking Out of Bedlam by Leslie Larson
Prima Donna by Megan Chance
True Confections by Katharine Weber
You can read an excerpt and check out the reader’s guide for each book. If one sounds like a book you’d like to read, ask for it. The publisher’s idea is that you’ll read it and pass it on to someone else to read. And, hopefully, like the book so much, you’ll look for more books by that author.
But do it quickly. When the supply they’ve set aside to give out is gone, the offer ends.

It's great to have something like this after the xmas holiday overspend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, Helen!

Thanks for the tip. I get oodles of books sent to me but I ALWAYS accept freebies from anywhere - bookaholic, I admit it.

Thanks Helen!
ReplyDeleteIf anyone hooks one of the books, let us know!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice promotion benefiting the reader. Kudos to Crown!
ReplyDeleteGood for readers, good for the writers. And it's an online promotion.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, Helen! The Twitterer @bermudaonion retweeted you and I came on over to your blog. I don't feel the need to request the books available from Crown this month, but now that I know this program is out there, I'll be headed back to Crown Publishing in the future to see if there are other cool books being offered!
ReplyDeleteThanks

Sounds great. Always looking for new and interesting books and when they're free that's like icing on the cake. Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! At the moment though, I have two I am working on...
ReplyDeleteOooo - I'll have to check it out :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link off to check if I'm too late.
ReplyDeleteNice tip Helen! Think I'll pass because I got so many books for Christmas and my birthday that I need to sit tight for a bit.
ReplyDeleteOh - a tip for you - I just finished Donna Morrisey's What They Wanted - what an amazing book - she's a fabulous writer and this got me right in the heart. It is based on some of her own experience - it is her heart book, I'd say and she enters the story fearlessly.
OK - back to work (lash sounds )
Thanks for the link, Helen. I had heard about Breaking out of Bedlam and really wanted to read that book. Now I can.
ReplyDeleteAnd after reading Jan's message, I guess I have another book to check out. I am a sucker for a "book from the heart."
Thanks for the book recommendation, Jan. And thank you bermudaonion for tweeting Straight From Hel. How sweet of you.
ReplyDeleteHelen, where in the world do you find all this information???
ReplyDeleteBTW--check out my Rules To Live By blog today! I'm pumped!!
Thanks, Helen, yay, free book offer!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that some day I'll be able to ebay all the pre-release proof copies I get to help fund my pension. I'm hoping...
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, I think this is a great idea from Crown Publishing. Books have been the ultimate social accessory for centuries. A book is a big lump of ideas and what easier way to identify with someone than ascertaining how far, or how little, their ideas gel with your own?
There's a reverse bell curve that would currently describe the past, the present and the future of word of mouth promotion. It used to be paramount, then advertising subverted it, but it's coming back and this Read it Forward campaign is a clever idea that capitalizes on it.
That's true Anton. Read It Forward, Buy the Next One.
ReplyDeleteSylvia, I am clicking over right away.
And Conda, I agree with you - Yay!!
Helen, I apologize if this has already been said somewhere, but don't forget Goodreads. They have a Book Giveaway page. Sometimes they're offered by the publisher, sometimes the author. But you can request a book that is listed on the page and interests you, and at the end of the giveaway period, they choose the winners. I think the only requirement is that you agree to post a review on your Goodreads page.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Julie.
ReplyDeleteI'm a member of Goodreads, but must say that I have not been at all active. I appreciate you dropping by to let us know about the books being given away there.
Awesome, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the info! I am off to check it out!

Thanks for the tip. Perfect time of year for it, and what a clever marketing campaign!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link, Helen! I just requested a copy of True Confections.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion, Helen. They sound like fascinating books.
