Word Puzzle

Decided to do something a little different for Sunday. A friend sent this to me so I thought I’d test you on your word skills.

See if you can figure out what these words have in common.

1. Banana
2. Dresser
3. Grammar
4. Potato
5. Revive
6. Uneven
7. Assess

No peeking at the answer. Or have you already given up? Give it another try…

Look at each word carefully. You’ll kick yourself when you discover the answer…

This is rather clever. (I can say that since I wasn’t the one who came up with it.)

Answer: No, it is not that they all have at least two common letters….

Answer: In all of the words listed, if you take the first letter, place it at the end of the word, and then spell the word backwards, it will be the same word.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone. And watch your words.

  1. I'll be honest - I flunked with crawling colors. Too damn easy and obvious to see! lol

Fun one - I'll have to remember that one.

  2. And I thought I was normally good at these word things :-(

Really good one, Helen, and so obvious after you know.

  3. Oh cool!

No, I do horribly at anagrams and that kind of thing. I was trying to weave the words into a narrative! Sigh.

  4. Elizabeth, you are a true writer - even a few words can be woven into a narrative.

It stumped me, too. I counted the pairs of letters in each, but that was as far as I got.

  5. Humpf!!! Is all I have to say! (NOT!)
Of course I flunked. I'm here trying to see a commonality between the items not the words--

  6. I'm afraid I flunked as well. Whoever came up with the list is better at words than I am. :)

  7. I'm so glad to see I wasn't the only one to not "get" it.

  8. Oops, I got it wrong too, I thought two of everything. Very clever game. I shouldn't be doing it at midnight!

    Bargain with the Devil

  9. One more member! I'm so relieved I'm not alone!

  10. I never would have gotten that! I was counting letters, realizing that most of them have six or seven letters.

  11. Never in a million years would I have gotten that. Well, in a million years MAYBE... It is scary to me how bad I am at word games like this.

  12. Thanks for the word exercise, keeping us on our toes this weekend!

  13. Glad everyone has enjoyed the game.

  14. I thought of - and discarded - so many things. Everything but that. ;) Thanks for the laugh.

  15. I flunked, too. It's a very clever puzzle. I'm glad I wasn't alone in not figuring it out.

  16. Clever! Sorry, I didn't even try. In a hotel room in Oregon and will fly home tomorrow - it's been an exhausting trip, so brain not working.

  17. Um, as usual, I'm foiled again. Isn't it interesting how hard it can be to recognize patterns and then how obvious they seem after the fact?
