One Day of Happy

My plan this morning had been to blog about the lay-offs and cuts in the publishing world. I swear, last week was depressing. Layoffs at Simon & Schuster, restructuring at Random House, resignations at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. And on and on, like someone had tipped the first in a line of dominoes.

But I woke up this morning and thought, man, I am just tired of bad news. So I decided to ditch the headless chickens, the sinking sales and the canceled books. For today.

Hey, I had dinner last night with two dear friends. We spent close to three hours yakking and laughing. Depressing news would be a buzz kill. So, let’s talk good news.

On Thursday, the wonderful, irreverent, yet wholly reverent, author Marvin D. Wilson is coming to Straight From Hel. I swear, you never know what the man is going to say or do. If you’re a follower of his blog, Free Spirit, then you know what I mean. I have no doubt that his stop here will be one of the craziest ever -- and by crazy I mean wonderful, memorable, and outstanding.

When he agreed to stop here on his book tour, I asked him to talk about his experience working with an editor. I opened the door. On Thursday, we’ll all get to see what parade comes through. Bring your confetti and noise makers and join in the celebration with Marvin D. Wilson. Early in the morning, I’ll re-post a review I did of his book, Owen Fiddler, then I’ll give the blog over to Marvin, jump back and get out of the way. If you want to have some fun, come back this Thursday!

  2. Marvin is a hoot -- don't know if that's a Texas term or universal! He'll be here early Thursday morning and dropping in all day long.

  4. Hey thanks for the shout out, Helen. My readers are all planning on coming over Thursday so have lots of martinis ready - bunch of heavy drinkers. Well ya gotta have at least ONE vice. And they're all addiction prone like I am. It's getting so bad I started a blog for Marvaholics where they can get the help they need, try and live a normal life. It's at: http://marvaholicsanonymous.blogspot.com - You'll want to bookmark that site in case any of your readers catch the nasty habit of reading my books and blogs so much they turn out homeless and empty shells.

  5. Marvin is a tree shaker, for sure, Jean! He loves to see what nuts he can shake loose.
