My third book with TSTC Publishing may be coming out soon. I say “may” since I’ve heard nothing from the publisher about it. Earlier this week, I saw that it is listed on AmazonUK as available for pre-order, although no release date was mentioned. So I went over to AmazonUSA to check there. It lists it as scheduled for release on December 1 of this year.
Apparently, they both have the same cover …
… although slightly different titles. It appears in the UK, it’ll be listed as Computer Gaming (TechCareers) and in the US, its title will be listed as TechCareers: Gaming Programmers and Artists. Different titles in different countries is not unusual.
I’m looking forward to seeing the book firsthand. I’m not holding my breath, though, since the book is not listed on TSTC’s site.
In case you’re wondering how I found out about Computer Gaming since I’ve not heard from the publisher … I have a Google alert on my name and it popped up there. I have alerts on my name, the name of my blog, and several other things. How many of you have an alert on your name? Why not?

Very good idea, thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Helen .. I must set up Google Alerts - I did for something - but that didn't work (well it does .. but not for what I want!) .. so these ideas are so sensible - life is simple sometimes isn't it..
ReplyDeleteThough I'd be 'worried' if my book was out .. but no-one had got to tell me ..
Good for you .. less than two weeks .. have fun - Hilary
When it comes to putting an alert on your name, it helps if your name is a bit uncommon, which mine is.
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome!!! Congrats. And yeah, there was a list of movie titles that had to be retitled for England because the words meant something different with that country's slang.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I hope it works out and they finally contact you.
ReplyDeleteI have google alerts on my name and novel titles, but you've reminded me that I never listed the latest one. Going to update it now. :)
Congratulations on the upcoming release of your book (whenever it is).

Thoughts in Progress
Congrats on the upcoming release of your book! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, it would be pretty hard to have an alert for my name--I don't have my actual name anywhere online, and there are probably a lot of sites with the phrase "The Golden Eagle". Maybe I'll set up an alert if (when!) I'm going to be published or get an agent.
Maybe I'll try out this Google alert, just for fun. I have an uncommon name too (that's why I don't us it in my blog) >:)
ReplyDeleteCold As Heaven
I do have a Google alert on my name, but could probably add my blog and a few other items.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes on your book release, always an exciting time. Stopping by to wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving too, Helen. Enjoy!
Very nice. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteThe alert on my name usually brings up something about me, but sometimes on a judge who has "Helen Ginger" in her name. Some of the other alerts I have are mostly not useful since they bring up a lot of extraneous listings. But even on those, I often find interesting things.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your eventual book release! And I have Google Alerts set up for both my name and my book's name. I find listings and reviews and stuff that way all the time.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your upcoming release, Helen.
ReplyDeleteI have Google alerts on my name that are always about me (a website on how many people share the same name says I'm the only Lillie Ammann in the world!). I also have alerts for my book titles and names and book titles of my clients. It's always great for client relations to send a client a link to something about them they didn't know was online.

I have alerts on all my books. It has helped me find reviews I might not have even known about.
ReplyDeleteExcellent idea, Lillie.
ReplyDeleteAlex and Susan, that's a great way to get notice on reviews.
Good luck with your new book!
ReplyDeleteI have Google alerts for both my names and also for the names of my books.

Hi Helen,
ReplyDeleteWouldn't the publishing house tell you when your book is due for release? Or am I being naive?
Anyway, good luck with it.
Bob
TSTC Publishing is a small university press. I'm not surprised they haven't given me an official release date. I found out the second was out when a friend told me she had a copy.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Helen! Will you do some publicity with the release? I've registered with Google alert. It's quite useful.

This looks pretty good. I'll recommend it to my brother who wants to get into the gaming industry.
ReplyDeleteI've got a few Google Alerts under different usernames. It's really fun to have a little email saying 'someone else has been saying nice things about you' :)
Enid, I don't plan on doing a tour or publicity. These books are work-for-hire. I write them, turn in the manuscript and that's it. I get no royalties and have never been asked to promote.
ReplyDeleteJamie, I think now is a good time to get into the gaming industry. Getting a gaming degree is fairly new, but it's becoming very popular. Get in now. My son is close to finishing his degree. He'll probably graduate summer of 2011. He and two of his gaming friends have just formed their own company, with the blessing of a huge gaming company who encouraged them.
Congrats on the book, Helen. I really like the cover.
ReplyDeleteAs for Google Alerts, I do not have that set up, and probably should. It would save me a lot of time as I periodically do a search to see if I have a new review up for Open Season.
Congratulations. How interesting that different titles are required in UK and US. It is usually the cover that I notice is different, never the title.
ReplyDeleteI have never thought about a google alert on my name. It is unusual enough, might try it out. Thanks for the information.
Hopefully it's soon - thought this one had gone MIA.
ReplyDeleteIt's been awhile, hasn't it, Diane?
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm embarrassed now, but how does one even do a google alert?
ReplyDeletebest of luck with your book :)
Lynda, they're easy to set up. Go to:

Congrats on the new book. I am amazed at how quickly authors and other persons that I mention on my blog contact me--thanks to Google Alerts.
ReplyDeleteYou can do that? Well, that answers your question about how many alerts I have up...
ReplyDeleteMy fingers are crossed that your book does wind up being released when Amazon says and that you hear from your publisher sometime soon. Is your publisher having difficulties?
Hi Kimberly. No, they're not having troubles unless you count being very busy.
ReplyDeleteI have a Google Alert on my name and for the word Breakthrough. I like to know if there is anything being written about me, good or bad, in cyberspace. Hey, I'm a nosey guy.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your soon to be released book. I’ve used Google Alerts for a couple of years and find it very helpful.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new book!
ReplyDeleteI've used GoogleAlerts for a bit now, and I really like it - it helps me find reviews and other bits and bobs I may have missed.
Most book titles are good to use for Google Alerts. I wonder about yours, Stephen. I would think Breakthrough might pull up a lot of extraneous stuff.
