One Lovely Blog

Thank you to Jemi Fraser for awarding me The One Lovely Blog Award. Actually, she gave her awardees a choice between the Honest Scrap Award and the One Lovely Blog Award, and, honestly, I’m not terribly scrappy, so I chose the lovely award.

Kidding aside, I really appreciate the recognition. Coming from Jemi, who has a wonderful blog, this is an honor.

I’m supposed to tell ten true facts about myself. I’ve been blogging since 2006. Is there anything y’all don’t know about me? Let’s see…
1. I get cold easily. The heater’s working, yet I sit in jeans, socks, long sleeve shirt and wrapped in a blanket. I miss the 100+ temps of the summer.

2. I worked two jobs in high school, one in a bank and the other at the local Dairy Treat.

3. If I could go back to college, I’d study less and party more.

4. I hate to spend money.

5. I would love to be able to paint. My husband’s family is full of painters - his mother, his sister Vivian, his aunt…all wonderful painters. Within the last month, his sister sent us two of hers. The latest one is an oil painting of a field of bluebonnets.

6. I love to travel and will get to do a little this year.

7. We used to get cable TV. Now we live where we can’t get cable. I don’t miss it.

8. I’ve been married more years than I was single.

9. I wasn’t born in a hospital.

10. I attended a weekend writing workshop with Sol Stein. He took one of his hardbacks, tore it in half, inscribed the back half and gave it to me.
There it is, ten things about me. I’ve received and passed on this award before, so I’m not sure who has received it and who hasn’t. It’s a beautiful award and a fun way to learn about each other. I hereby award it to:

Meredith Rae Morgan at Fictional Life

Mason Canyon at Thoughts in Progress

Susan Gourley/Kelley at Susan Says

I also hope you’ll visit Jemi’s blog and tell her hi.

  4. Congratulations on your award and thank you for sharing it with me. I enjoyed the true facts about yourself. Even though you may have been blogging since 06, some of us have just started blogging and this is all new to us. :) I will say #1 on your list is me, I am so cold natured. I have sat on a balcony in Florida in July wrapped in a blanket and I wasn't sunburned and had on jeans and a blouse. I long for the hot temperatures too. Thanks again.

  13. Congratulations, Helen! It IS a great blog--extremely helpful, and frequently stuff I don't run across elsewhere.

I run cold too, and hate spending money... I managed to balance the party/study thing pretty well though... you know me... moderation is nowhere to be found, so I do all I'm supposed to AND all I'm not...

  18. Since I'm actually Susan Gourley, I want to thank you for the award. I'm honored but not surprised that you received it from someone else. I love stopping by your blog and learn something almost every day and today I learned some things about you.

  19. Well, there you go, Susan. You already have one of the tells about yourself. You are not Susan Kelly. ;-)

I was and always am conscientious about my work. My DH (boyfriend then) and I took one class together - Environmental Studies. The big assignment was to collect, over the semester, articles related to the environment. I scoured the paper daily and cut things out and got my notebook ready. DH, the night before it was due began looking through a waist high stack of papers.

  20. Helen, I knew you were a kindred spirit. I'm always cold too. Always. I love summer. I actually love the feeling of sweat dribbling down my back. I'm actually incredibly bundled up right now and wishing everyone else was cold too so I could turn on the fireplace. But of course, they're not.

  21. It's begun to warm up here, but I'm still wearing my furry slippers and long sleeves.

  22. I'm with you, I love living in a snowy climate but while I'm enjoying the beauty of the snow outside, I love to be sitting in front a warm fire and with socks on my feet.
