Did you survive Christmas dinner? Or are you still totally stuffed?
Think back on yesterday’s menu. What did you serve? Now think of a character you’ve written. Would s/he have eaten the same Christmas meal? What would s/he have eaten that was different? Why?

I think I'm still stuffed. :)
ReplyDeleteMy Memphis BBQ character, Lulu, would have had BBQ and all the fixin's. :)

I just had a little turkey and a whole lot of junk! So yeah, my 12-year-old characters would probably eat like me.
ReplyDeleteKeep working ,great job!
ReplyDeleteI havew vegan breaded eggplant slices over pasta with a sweet potato. (My husband had shrimp and crabcakes.) And no, I can't think of a single character of of mine that would eat that unusual a Christmas feast!
ReplyDeleteMy main character is Jewish - as am I. So she would definitely have Chinese food on Xmas. Which is exactly what I had!
ReplyDeleteWe had roast leg of lamb, tabhouli, roasted vegetables, hummus, pita, olives, figs, dates - a middle-eastern feast! I'm still stuffed especially since I've been on a very strict no wheat, sugar, booze, vinegar, etc...diet for almost four months! We thought we might try to eat what is eaten in the biblical lands if not the biblical times (they wouldn't have had potatoes or tomatoes or possibly rice.) We will definitely do it again and I can see my protagonist, Kitty MacDonald, deciding it would be fun to shake it up.
ReplyDeleteGood question! We had the traditional turkey feast :)
ReplyDeleteMy characters wouldn't be able to afford the feast, and would have to make do with what they could pick up from their local market.
Owen Fiddler would have had too much of everything along with way too much booze, then woke up the next day complaining everyone was forcing him to be a drunken glutton and blaming them for his headache and indigestion.

This is so much fun, hearing what you all had for Christmas dinner and what your characters might have. We get in our own houses and sort of assume that we're all having the same feast. Clearly, we are not! I love it.
ReplyDeleteWe had crab cakes, acorn squash, and broccoli in Northern Colorado. Character Sylvia of the Sylvia and Willie mysteries would have preferred the crabmeat salad sandwiches at Boston's on the Beach (Delray Beach, Florida).
ReplyDeleteOooh, what a great question! We cooked the "traditional" meal, but for dessert I made chocolate chip pumpkin cookies--and those were the big hit!
ReplyDeleteOne of my characters would have TODAY, after Christmas, the Scots dish slumgullion, i.e. leftovers mixed together. Hmm, come to think of it, that's what we're having too!
All of these dishes sound really good - and I'm still full from Christmas dinner.
ReplyDeleteWe had bacon, sausages, hash browns, and eggs for breakfast at my step daughters place, and Roast turkey, ham, potatoes in the jackets, and salad for lunch.
ReplyDeleteI don't have characters to feed, but in the past I'd put a hangi down. Hangi lamb, beef, pork, and roast vegetables and greens. Merry Christmas.
My characters eat the same stuff as I do!
ReplyDeleteBarbeques, game and good drink!
We had lasagna for our Christmas dinner. That is a tradition for the Miller family that started after we moved away from extended family. I did not want to be in the kitchen cooking and cleaning up from a big meal on Christmas day, so we started having our formal dinner on Christmas Eve. Most of our kids did not care for turkey and all the trimmings, so they asked if we could have lasagna. Then on Christmas day we would have a pre-cooked ham and all kinds of breads and goodies and we would just snack all day. That way we all got to play with the new toys.LOL
ReplyDeleteSarah, one of the central characters in my mystery that will come out this year is very unconventional, and I think she would do something similar if she had a family to celebrate with.
