One Lovely Blog Award

Last week, author and lovely blogger herself, Maryann Miller, totally surprised me with the One Lovely Blog Award. She said this about me:
Helen Ginger -- who has a terrific blog and newsletter packed with helpful information for writers. She is so generous with her time and expertise, and I really admire her for that. She is also a terrific editor.

I feel like Sally Fields now. [Cue the groans while I accept my award.]

There are so many fabulous blogs and bloggers out there to pass this award on to. But I had to narrow it down to three.

Mary Gordon Spence - speaker, author, columnist, humorist and blogger. Mary Gordon can take the ordinary and make it funny.

Karen Walker - memoirist and author of Following the Whispers. Karen is honest, open, and always shows her heart.

Anton Gully - his blog is always different, unique and interesting. Besides, I wanted to hear what the guy who named his blog, Dogs of Despair Ate My Novel, has to say about receiving the One Lovely Blog Award.

Those are my picks. If Mary Gordon, Karen and Anton would like to keep this award going, here are the rules:
1) Accept the award, and don’t forget to post a link back to the awarding person.
2) Pass the award on.
3) Notify the award winners.

And thank you again, Maryann!

Looks like you might be having a big awards day today. :) I decided to have an Oscar style ceremony on my blog today.

  3. Well, you certainly deserve it. You do in fact have one lovely blog. And one of the best blog names out there, although Dogs of Despair Ate My Novel may give you a run for your money in that department. ;)

  9. Why thank you, Helen. That's really sweet of you, and will certainly teach me to keep a lower profile.

BTW it's "The Black Dogs of Despair Ate My Novel" - that's not some sort of veiled racial profiling, it's actually a reference to Winston Churchill and his depiction of depression following him around like a "black dog".

  12. Well, Jimminee Cricket, Anton, I did not mean to mess up the name of your blog. It is truly unique. It even has a picture of the black dogs right there at the top.

Thank you everyone. I hope you'll get to know the ones I gave the award to. (As an editor, I always want to say, yes, I know, that should be "to whom I gave the award" but the writer in me says, hush up, I can do what I want here.)

  21. Well you do generously share your knowledge, Helen. I learned so much on getting a blog noticed and tweets and such from your blog. When I had questions, you took the time to answer them.

I'm glad to see your generousity is rewarded and with such a lovely award too. Love the fluted cup in such delicate colors. :-)

  24. You deserve it, Helen. As for ending a sentence with a preposition, you know what Winston Churchill said: "From now on, ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put."

And regarding Anton's blog name, Black Dog was Stephen Booth's first mystery novel. He quotes the meaning from Oxford English Dictionary: "melancholy, depression of spirits; ill humor. In some country places, when a child is sulking, it is said 'the black dog is on his back.'" That's no doubt how Sir Winston used it.
