Book Blogger Appreciation Week

It’s here. Well, almost here. Book Blogger Appreciation Week will run the week of September 14 -18 this year. Started by Amy Riley of My Friend Amy, BBAW recognizes the hard work and contribution of book bloggers to the promotion and preservation of a literate culture actively engaged in discussing books, authors, and a lifestyle of reading. The week spotlights and celebrates the work of active book bloggers through guest posts, awards, giveaways, and community activities.

Last year over 400 blogs came together to celebrate the art of book blogging during the first ever Book Blogger Appreciation Week. I was late in finding out about it and didn’t get registered until the last day (I think). This year, I’ve already registered Straight From Hel. It’s a fun way to pay homage to blogs talking about books and the hard work that goes into those blogs - as well as a spectacular way to meet lots of bloggers, visit their blogs and connect readers to writers.

There will also be tons of giveaways, plus awards for the best participating blogs. During that week, there will be daily blogging themes. It’s a lot of work for Amy, of course, but also for all the participating blogs. But it’s a labor of love.

You can nominate your favorite book blogs until August 15. There’s a long list of categories. After nominations close, the nominated blogs are shortlisted and voting begins in September. You nominate by URL, not blog name. For example, should you decide to nominate Straight From Hel (no pressure), you would copy and paste the link into the box - http://straightfromhel.blogspot.com - that’s just an example, of course. ;-)

To nominate your favorite book blog, go to: http://bookbloggerappreciationweek.com/index.php/awards
You can nominate more than one blog since there are a lot of categories.

  2. Sounds like you were involved last year. You'll have to give me pointers. I don't want to miss out on stuff!

  3. Fun and useful information, as always, Helen. Can it ever be bad to meet other bloggers and make some networking connections? Don’t think so. I linked over to Amy’s blog and found the registration form embedded in the bottom of her post. Easy to complete without any hoop-jumping. Not that I nominated myself ten times, just to “test” it. I’m only sayin’…

    Best regards, Galen

  4. Love this idea. I was under the impression that it was only for book review blogs though. No?

  5. Haven't heard of this but it sounds like fun and a good way to find new blogs to visit. Good luck.

  9. One of the primary focuses is on book reviews, Alexis, but you can join or be nominated in categories like best blog on the book industry (or something worded along those lines). (I was going to nominate Straight From Hel for that one, but, unlike Galen, I'm a chicken. I was afraid I'd get kicked out of the fun for nominating myself.)

  10. My old Free Spirit blogspot blog actually WON first place in the Christian/Inspirational category last year. It wasw HUGE to me at the time cuz ai was relatively new to blogging and the vote garnering campaign I launched brought a large influx of new readers.

I'm sitting this year out, though - my new blog is not as focused on Christianity or book reviews so and there aren't any categories it fits rightly into.

But the BBAW is a GREAT competition, well worth the effort to toss your blog hat into the ring and go for it. And Amy is a peach. :)

Oh, and of course - I'll cast my vote for Her Straightness From Hel!

  11. You did indeed win the Christian/Inspirational category last year, Marvin. I not only well remember that, I voted for you.

Brooke, we did indeed meet last year via BBAW. That's another great thing about BBAW - you meet some great people.

  14. Thanks for all this good info, Helen. I'm wondering if I qualify as a book blogger since I feature a Colorado author on Mondays and do occasional book reviews as well. Sure would be fun to participate rather than observe.

  15. Thanks Helen for ONE MORE useful blog post. I'm going to check it out. And can you be nominated multiple times? If so, I'll nominate you too.

  16. I think you can, Patricia. They let me participate last year.

  18. Sounds like an interesting project. I'll go by and take a look. I don't think my blog would qualify for anything, but nominating and voting on others would be fun. There are a lot of neat blogs out there that deserve recognition.

  19. I don't know that there's a list of who has signed up so you may have to have an idea of who you want to nominate and the URL for them. And I believe in order to be in the running for an award the blog has to have at least 5 nominations in the same category.

Marvin or Brooke, do you know if a list of blogs will go up in time for folks to nominate from the list?

  20. Ooh, Terri, you're too sweet. This is sort of thrilling. I never ran for class President, but I bet it felt like this.

  21. Wow! I love this idea!!! I will definitely need to go check this out - sounds like a lot of fun! Of course I'll vote for your blog ;)
