My first thought when I read an article called “If Elmo Ran For Office” in the National Post was, “Are you kidding me?!”
Now I know there are all kinds of children’s books out there written by celebrities and their ghost writers, but come on, political propaganda for toddlers? And that’s all these seem to be.
McCain, Clinton and Obama all have children’s books glorifying them. I’m sure Palin’s next. The authors all claim their books aren’t political statements and use words like: biography, girl power, inspired.
You can read excerpts on the National Post article.
Then tell me what you think.

That's totally strange. Why would kids care?
ReplyDeleteI like your website. I've been experimenting with mine. Strange things have been happening with the navigation bars and I've been told to try clearing the cache and cookies. There's always something weird.

Usually when you're told to clear the cache and cookies, you (actually, I) realize that it's been so long I've forgotten how.
ReplyDeleteI throw up my hands in despair...I HATE politics. Not that I won't vote. But NOT for Elmo, fer crissake...
ReplyDeleteForgot to say that I think those books are just ridiculous. As Morgan points out, kids don't care. They don't need to have politics shoved into their faces at that young age. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteNone of those books will be on my Christmas shopping list. I would say that I hope they won't be on anyone else's, but it would be fruitless.
ReplyDeleteOh my good lord - that's just pathetic. Sigh, if only I were famous BEFORE trying to get known as a writer. I better stop now before I start sounding like Owen Fiddler {-:>
ReplyDeleteWell, Marvin, you're becoming famous now. And now's when it counts. I'm reading Owen Fiddler now.
ReplyDeleteI think you chose the right word for this -- agitprop -- as opposed to fairy tales.
ReplyDeleteChildren need fairy tales -- they're works of imagination as much as anything.
But, yeah, making children politically correct (and both parties are guilty of that insanity) before their minds have developed strong critical thinking skills is just crazy.
