For 14 years, I've been sending out my newsletter, Doing It Write, to subscribers around the world. Recently, though, I discovered that Topica, which handled sending out the newsletter, had decided to no longer support free text-only newsletters, and just quit sending out the newsletter.
So, I've decided to put it up here on Straight From Hel. Over the course of a week, I'll post sections of the newsletter. Let me know what you think.

The Gersh Agency is working with digital publisher Diversion Books to create a branded book imprint for the agency's clients, launching this summer. "Each book in our new venture will have a unique marketing, promotion, design and distribution plan to help authors connect with readers. As the publishing industry continues to evolve, this program presents an exciting new outlet for our clients' work, and emphasizes our continued commitment to serve them at the highest level." (Joe Veltre, Head of Gersh's book department)
Amazon has launched a "marketplace" India that sells books and videos, with additional products coming shortly. You can read about it here:

I like this new feature. I wondered what happened to your newsletter. It is so helpful to have these tidbits of business news, so I hope you continue.
ReplyDeleteI wondered what happened to the newsletter! Mailchimp will send it out for free, if you don't want it on your blog. I use them for emailing my posts and my (non-existent) newsletter.
ReplyDeleteI use MailChimp too. They will send out newsletters free... that is if you subscription list is 2000 people or less. Helen, if your list is still growing well, I would suggest finding another email service.
DeleteAnother suggestion is to create a new page and just keep on adding to it once a week having the issues in ascending order.
Of course, doing it as a post once a week is good too.
Thanks for the tips. I'll be checking them all out.
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog so will look forward to seeing more of these tip posts here.
ReplyDeleteChecking in to say hi, Helen. The Publishing Tidbits are a good idea.
ReplyDeleteYou always have great tips and info. Sorry about the newsletter. It's hard to keep up with everything isn't it?
ReplyDeleteAnn
I do wish Topica had atleast told me they were no longer sending it out to subscribers. I went every week for several months and posted the newsletter, not knowing that it was not being distributed. Grr.
ReplyDeleteI did miss your newsletter, but figured somehow my computer wasn't accepting it. Glad you'll publish tips on your blog - I always look for new Straight from Hel posts. Thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanne.
