All part of the skill of learning to be a better writer, I guess - like 'showing not telling'. I think it's also important to trust your readers and resist the temptation to blurt everything out at once - not much of a read if you do that!Chris Stovellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03741359642268813093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32918125.post-37205534790232775382009-08-02T13:55:51.486-05:002009-08-02T13:55:51.486-05:00I agree with that, Morgan!I agree with that, Morgan!Helen Gingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09794759602654727110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32918125.post-45651304390182560432009-08-02T13:46:18.047-05:002009-08-02T13:46:18.047-05:00I like to read revelations as long as they're ...I like to read revelations as long as they're not too far off base and don't make sense.

Morgan Mandel
http://morganmandel.blogspot.com
http://www.morganmandel.comMorgan Mandelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10118929301591850918noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32918125.post-36814774531546614582009-08-02T11:25:59.052-05:002009-08-02T11:25:59.052-05:00It's sometimes startling to think you know all...It's sometimes startling to think you know all about your characters, only to have one reveal a something new.

Diane and Jean, I think Ms. Zorro is hoping to hide from her owner who sent me this picture and called her steaks on legs.Helen Gingerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09794759602654727110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32918125.post-23613707282182745862009-08-02T10:58:52.956-05:002009-08-02T10:58:52.956-05:00I agree. I'm also wondering what the cow has to do with secrets. A character's...Totally agree with these points. A character's complexity and multi-levels of personality, motivation, secret agendas, etc., should unfold slowly as the story develops. I'm editing a book right now where the author has this propensity for laying out everything you could possible ever want to know about each character as soon as he/she is introduced to the story. Awful. I'm making her rewrite to give it to us bit by bit through the story line instead of stopping the story dead while she interrupts the forward motion to divulge a bazillion facts and details in her own narrative voice all at once.

The Old sillyMarvin D Wilsonhttp://theoldsilly.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32918125.post-22825063523502379412009-08-02T09:50:12.086-05:002009-08-02T09:50:12.086-05:00A couple of my characters are most definately wear...A couple of my characters are most definately wearing masks. Everyone has hangups that we can't see, issues in need of resolution, and it rarely happens with a bang.

BTW - what do you think the cow is hiding?

L. I guess I'm doing the writing but often they're guiding my way. It's interesting how often they surprise us!Stephanie Farishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10461865229341760836noreply@blogger.com
